# How Big Is the GTA 6 Map? Six Confirmed Regions and What's Still Guesswork

GTA 6 takes place in the state of Leonida, a fictional Florida. Rockstar has confirmed six regions within it and has never published a full map, a square-kilometre figure, or a comparison chart.

The most authoritative size reference comes from the New York Times, which reported that Vice City is roughly twice the size of Los Santos and that the whole map covers around three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Every other number in circulation is an estimate, and most of the maps you will find online are fan reconstructions or leaks.

## Which regions are confirmed?

Six, all named by Rockstar.

**Vice City** — the main city, a modern Miami. Beaches, nightlife, wealthy districts, ports and a high-rise skyline.

**Leonida Keys** — a tropical island chain to the south. Bars, beaches, boats and marine wildlife. Jason worked here for drug runners before the story begins.

**Grassrivers** — wetlands modelled on the Everglades. Waterways, airboats and the densest concentration of wildlife in the game.

**Port Gellhorn** — a faded coastal town in the west. Cheap motels, abandoned attractions, strip malls, truck stops and industrial docks. It has its own police force, which means the state contains more than one jurisdiction.

**Ambrosia** — the industrial and agricultural interior near Lake Leonida, home to the Allied Crystal sugar refinery and a visible biker culture. Campaign posters for mayoral candidate Erin Henshaw appear here.

**Mount Kalaga National Park** — forested wilderness in the north. Rivers, hills and trails, with hunting, fishing and kayaking. Deer and cougars live here. The closest comparison in Rockstar's own work is Ambarino from Red Dead Redemption 2.

## What else has been named?

A handful of specific places, confirmed through screenshots and official material rather than a map release:

- **Lake Leonida** — a large freshwater body at the centre of the state
- **The Atlantis Hotel** — an Art Deco landmark on the Vice Beach waterfront, recognisable by its neon sign and stepped facade
- **Stockyard** — a Vice City district, home to murals by more than fifty street artists, a tattoo parlour and a streetwear store

## So how big is it, really?

The honest answer is that nobody outside Rockstar has a figure.

The New York Times reporting is the strongest reference available: Vice City around twice Los Santos, the full map around three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2. That came from Rockstar directly.

Community mapping projects produce a range instead — commonly between 1.5 and 2.5 times the size of Los Santos, depending on which method is used and what counts as playable. Those estimates are measured from trailer footage and screenshots, not from a map.

Rockstar has never stated a size. Any precise square-kilometre figure you encounter was calculated by someone else.

## What about the leaked map?

In August 2026 a detailed map of Leonida circulated online, reportedly from a development build. It shows counties, towns and islands that Rockstar has not announced, including a Vice-Dale County.

Its authenticity has not been confirmed, and neither has its age — a map from an early build would not reflect the shipped game even if genuine.

We do not reproduce it. Rockstar removes leaked material directly, and a map that cannot be verified is not a reference.

## Why do so many maps look official?

Because the fan-mapping scene is skilled and the incentive to publish one is high.

A fake circulated in February 2026 and was caught by a spelling error in its own map menu — viral fakes rarely survive close inspection of small details.

A useful rule: if a map shows named locations Rockstar has never mentioned, it is a reconstruction, a leak or a fabrication. Rockstar has released screenshots and named six regions. It has not released a map.
