Will There Be GTA 6 RP Servers? The Honest Timeline

Not at launch, and not for a while. Custom roleplay servers need a PC version that has not been announced — but Rockstar has just opened a different path, and GTA 5 roleplay is playable today.

There are no GTA 6 roleplay servers, and there will not be any on 19 November 2026.

Any site showing you a GTA 6 server with a live player count is showing you something that does not exist. The game has not shipped, there is no PC version, and no modding platform for it has been announced.

That is the short answer. The longer one is more interesting, because Rockstar has just done something that changes how this might work.

Why can't roleplay servers exist at launch?

Custom servers run on PC.

The roleplay scene as it exists today runs on FiveM, a modification platform for the PC version of GTA V. There is no console equivalent, and there never has been. Consoles do not allow the kind of modification a custom server requires.

GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar has announced no PC version, no date and no system requirements.

So the roleplay timeline is downstream of the PC timeline, which has not started.

What is the realistic timeline?

Three steps, none of which have official dates.

Step one: the PC version. Rockstar's previous PC ports arrived 7 to 19 months after console release, averaging 12 to 14. Applied to November 2026, that points to late 2027, with published estimates ranging from spring 2027 to spring 2028.

Step two: modding support. FiveM did not appear alongside GTA V. The modern roleplay scene took years to form after the PC release.

Step three: communities rebuild. Servers need frameworks, scripts, staff and players. Established GTA 5 communities would be migrating, not starting fresh, which helps — but it is still a rebuild.

Stacking those, stable GTA 6 roleplay servers realistically arrive in 2028. That is an estimate built on precedent, not a schedule.

Will FiveM work with GTA 6?

Unannounced. Not confirmed, not denied.

Rockstar acquired Cfx.re — the team behind FiveM and RedM — in 2023, and expanded its modding policy at the time in support of the community. That makes continuity plausible. It does not make it confirmed.

You may see the name "SixM" used for a supposed GTA 6 equivalent. It is a fan invention. No such thing has been announced by Rockstar or Cfx.

Until one of them says otherwise, treat every claim about FiveM and GTA 6 as speculation.

What changed in September 2026?

Something significant, and it is not on most GTA 6 sites yet.

On 8 September, Rockstar launched the closed beta of NoPixel V — a roleplay server running inside GTA Online, accessed through the Rockstar Games Launcher. No FiveM. No third-party platform. Around 439 creators and roleplayers were invited; there is no public application process.

Rockstar promoted it from its official account and described it as the next evolution of GTA V roleplay. Twitch Drops ran through 30 September.

This matters because it demonstrates something that was not previously demonstrated: official roleplay can exist on Rockstar's own platform, without the modding ecosystem.

And GTA Online runs on consoles.

Rockstar has said nothing about doing this for GTA 6. But the assumption underneath every "no PC means no roleplay" argument — including the one at the top of this page — now has a visible alternative.

So could GTA 6 get roleplay without PC?

Possibly. Nobody knows.

What we can say:

  • Rockstar owns the roleplay platform, and has since 2023
  • Rockstar now actively promotes a roleplay server rather than tolerating it
  • An online mode for GTA 6 exists in development, referenced in Rockstar's own court filings
  • Rockstar has confirmed no online mode, no roleplay plans, and no dates for either

Anyone telling you confidently which way this goes is guessing.

What about consoles right now?

There is no FiveM on console, and there will not be.

Some channels advertise console GTA roleplay. What they generally mean is roleplay performed inside GTA Online using its existing tools — players agreeing to act in character in an unmodified game. That is a real activity with a real community, but it is not a custom server, and the systems roleplay servers are built on are not there.

What can you actually play today?

This is the part most GTA 6 coverage skips.

GTA 5 roleplay is not a waiting room. It is the thing itself, and it is bigger than most people realise: FiveM carries more than 250,000 concurrent players across 17,000 to 20,000 servers.

Getting in takes an afternoon. You need a legitimate copy of GTA V — since 21 July 2026 both the Legacy and Enhanced versions work, so whichever one you own is fine. Pirated copies are blocked by server anti-cheat immediately. FiveM downloads free from fivem.net and needs about 7 GB beyond the game itself.

Then you pick a server, and that choice matters more than anything technical. Entry models vary enormously: some are free and open, some require a written application, some charge for access, some make you earn it through play.

If you are waiting for GTA 6 roleplay, you can spend the wait inside the thing you are waiting for.

What is confirmed and what is not

Confirmed:

  • GTA 6 launches on consoles only, 19 November 2026
  • No PC version announced
  • No modding platform for GTA 6 announced
  • No GTA 6 roleplay servers exist
  • FiveM runs on GTA V PC and carries the current roleplay scene
  • Rockstar owns Cfx.re, which makes FiveM
  • NoPixel V launched in closed beta inside GTA Online on 8 September 2026

Not confirmed:

  • Whether FiveM will support GTA 6
  • Whether GTA 6 gets an online mode, or when
  • Whether official roleplay comes to GTA 6
  • Any PC release date
  • Anything called SixM
